In the post financial crisis world of greater regulatory scrutiny and a stronger focus on corporate governance and compliance, the enforced modus operandi for many legal and regulatory teams is to do more work with the same - or fewer - resources. At the same time, as commercial and competitive pressures grow, companies are increasingly expecting their legal teams to be true business enablers - dispelling perceptions of “Legal” as business blockers. Indeed, in many organisations today, the legal team has become far more involved in the broader business strategic agenda, either through necessity or proactive inclusion, and, in the process, has moved up the value chain.

Ruth Daniels has global responsibility for CPA Global's legal function and is a member of the executive management team. Daniels has a strong legal and commercial management background, with particular experience in the eCommerce, technology, multi-media, and social networking sectors. Prior to joining CPA Global, Daniels was with Ancestry.com Inc, the US based on-line family history and social networking business, where she was Vice President of Legal for the International business as well as managing its China and content acquisition businesses at various stages. Daniels began her legal career with DLA Piper in the UK, where she qualified as an IP lawyer and was an Associate in their Technology, Media & Communications Group, which included secondments with IPC Media, ITV and T-Mobile. She subsequently joined Pinsent Masons as Senior Associate in their Outsourcing, Technology & Commercial Group. Before moving into law, Daniels worked for several years in retail and marketing roles with such blue chip companies as Marks & Spencer, Accenture, and Saatchi & Saatchi.
